A newspaper in Las Vegas claims a man sporting Bernie Sanders gear attempted to submit an obituary for Hillary Clinton in what may have been a threat to the Democratic candidate for president.
According to the Las Vegas-Review Journal, a man identified as Don Schubert was asked to leave the newspaper’s lobby Friday after trying to submit an obituary for Hillary Rodham Clinton, dated Feb. 20.
After newspaper security officials reported the incident to the Secret Service, Schubert was questioned by agents. He later told the Review Journal that the attempted submission of the obituary was an attempt at “political humor,” on a day Nevada voters go to the polls in the state’s Democratic primary.
The obituary for Clinton and her campaign is perhaps premature. Most recent polls show Clinton maintains a slim lead over Sanders, though the margin between the two has shrunk considerably in recent weeks.
Schubert wore a shirt with a Sanders sticker, and drove a car bearing more Sanders stickers, the report said. The newspaper said Schubert previously called its newsroom to complain about the several coin flips that went in Clinton’s favor during last month’s Iowa caucuses and that the Sanders’ campaign website lists “Don Schubert’s House” as the site of a volunteer call station.
