A Hyattsville teenager ran away from home in July 2006, and authorities say no one has seen her since.
Police are still probing the disappearance of Lucia Oliveros-Suarez, who was 14 when she was last seen on July 14, 2006.
Lucia contacted her foster parents again that month, asking for $300, and that was the last time her family or friends heard from her, said Bob Lowery, executive director of the missing-children division at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Lowery said Lucia had engaged in risky behavior and activities in the past. She had also run away from home before.
He said authorities think she might have remained in the Langley Park area, but they have not been able to find her.
“We believe she’s out there,” he said.
Lowery said Lucia left her home on her own accord, but she could still be in danger.
“With runaways, we’re always concerned that they could be victimized,” Lowery said.
Officials don’t know of any cell phone activity Lucia has had since she ran away.
Lucia, who is Hispanic, would be 19 years old now.
At the time she disappeared, she was about 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed about 90 pounds, according to NCMEC. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
She was last seen wearing a green polo shirt, bluejeans and black tennis shoes, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. She was carrying a purple backpack with her.
Anyone with information about Lucia’s disappearance is asked to call the NCMEC at 800-THE-LOST (843-5678) or Prince George’s County police at 301-333-4000.
