Baltimore County agreed before a federal judge on Wednesday to place a longtime firefighter back on its payroll while his suspension is reviewed, his attorney said.
Lt. William Gilbert, a county firefighter since 1983, filed a lawsuit against the county, the fire department and Fire Chief John Hohman Tuesday in federal court alleging his right to due process was violated. The 35-page suit says Hohman maintained a vendetta against Gilbert after a union-related dispute in 1994, at one point ordering his suspension because of the length of his mustache. Gilbert?s attorney, John Singleton, said the county?s administrative officer now will review the suspension. Elise Armacost, spokeswoman for the county?s fire department, declined to comment, citing pending personnel and litigation issues.
