Santorum rules out joining a Romney administration

Rick Santorum has no intention of accepting a position in a Romney administration should the former Massachusetts governor beat Barack Obama.

The former presidential candidate told host Candy Crowley during an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning  that his “priorities and time of being a husband and a father” come before serving in a Mitt Romney cabinet.

“It is pretty much a flat no,” Santorum said when pressed on the issue.

However, he expressed a willingness to work to get Mitt Romney elected and give him advice if asked.

When asked by Crowley about the negative statements he made regarding Mitt Romney during the presidential primaries, Santorum appeared unwilling to rebuke his initial opinions.

Noting that he has no problem “questioning authenticity,” Santorum would not back away from his initial statements. However, he expressed regret that his campaign rhetoric sometimes had been less than articulate.

Immense differences between President Obama and Mitt Romney, and that between the two candidates, and Santorum told Crowley that he has an “great degree of comfort” in supporting Romney.

Santorum was also careful in his critique of Romney’s response to Obama’s recent proposal of amnesty for illegal immigrants, admitting that Romney is trying to “walk a line,” on this issue, and that swing voters are very important to both parties in the 2012 election.
