Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s bid to make peace with her history of claiming Native American heritage has run into a big hurdle in New Hampshire where she is facing an ad campaign attacking her efforts to help a tribe build a gambling casino.

The ads, placed with the New Hampshire Journal, show Warren in a Native American headdress beside the phrase, “Fauxcahontas Casino.”

The ads, put in the Journal’s daily newsletter, demand, “Stop Elizabeth Warren’s Casino Plan.”

The placement in New Hampshire could be a problem for the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate because the state hosts the first primary in 2020.

The ads were placed by a group called the Coalition to Restore American Values.

They link to a video that reviews the bid by the Massachusetts’ Mashpee Wampanoag tribe to build a $1 billion casino on federal land.

The deal has been stalled by a federal ruling against a land deal involved in the project.

Warren has faced President Trump’s slam as “Pocahontas” for her claim to be of Native American descent. She recently apologized but this week appeared at a Native American women’s conference.
