Md. man sentenced in multi-state bank robbery spree

A Maryland man has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison for committing a multi-state bank robbery spree last year.

Gary Densmore, 56, of Glen Burnie, was sentenced in federal court in Baltimore to 13 years and one month behind bars.

Court records say the spate of heists began on Feb. 2, 2011, when he tried to rob a Carrollton Bank in Glen Burnie, but fled when the teller hesitated after receiving a demand note. The next day, he robbed a Severn Savings Bank in Glen Burnie of $2,300 and fled the state in a stolen car.

Over the next month, prosecutors said, Densmore committed three other bank heists: a robbery in Wisconsin on Feb. 10, another in South Dakota on Feb. 14 and a third in Iowa on March 1.

He was apprehended a few days later in Minnesota.

At the time of the crimes, Densmore was on supervised release stemming from a 1997 conviction for bank robberies in Georgia and Florida, prosecutors said.
