Room salon managers admit harboring illegal aliens

The owner and managers of a Falls Church room salon have admitted they harbored illegal immigrants to make a profit.

They pleaded guilty in federal court in Alexandria to employing female illegal aliens from Korea to work as waitresses and hostesses at the club, which is known as High Society, Tomato and Tomato Garden.

Prosecutors said the bar contained several private rooms where customers — mainly Korean men — consumed alcohol and were served by provocatively dressed Korean women, who flirted, sang and danced with the patrons.

At least 25 women who worked there were harbored since December 2007, according to the plea agreements for owner Sang Bun Surh, 52, and managers Young Mi Kim, 41, and Hyeon Chul Kim, 55. Surh is a legal permanent U.S. resident, Young Mi Kim is a conditional resident and Hyeon Chul Kim is in the country illegally, prosecutors said.

The three admitted to using Annandale apartments to harbor their workers and to booking flights for them. They will be sentenced Feb. 25 and face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
