Former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign said it raised more than $6 million in its first 24 hours.
The campaign said it brought in $6.3 million in contributions from almost 97,000 donors, a record first-day haul among 2020 Democratic presidential candidates.
Ninety-seven percent of online donations were under $200, according to Biden’s team, and the campaign’s average donation was $41. The campaign said 65,000 donations were from people who “are new and did not originate from existing email lists.”
“The campaign met the fundraising threshold to qualify for the [Democratic National Committee’s] debates in 12 hours,” the campaign said.
Biden’s haul beat his 2020 Democratic rivals by hundreds of thousands of dollars, but he had fewer donors.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., raised $5.9 million from 223,000 individual donors in his first 24 hours.
Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, raised $6.1 million, in the first 24 hours of his presidential campaign from 128,000 unique contributions.
Biden announced Thursday he is entering the crowded 2020 field. Twenty Democrats have thus far announced their candidacies.
Biden held a kickoff fundraiser at the Philadelphia home of Comcast executive David Cohen on Thursday.
