Man killed by CSX trainA man was killed by a CSX freight train in Rockville.

Cpl. Dan Friz, a Montgomery County police spokesman, said initial reports from witnesses indicated that the man jumped in front of the train shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Nebel Street and Randolph Road.

Train tracks were shut down, affecting CSX, Amtrak and MARC trains, and the train blocked Randolph Road, forcing traffic to be diverted.

Arrest made in College Park fight

A 21-year-old man was charged with cutting four men — including his brother — in a fight at a College Park bar.

Leonard Alonso Ramos, of Kensington, was charged with first-degree assault in the early Tuesday morning fight, police said.

The fight broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at the Thirsty Turtle bar and the continued onto the street.

Police say the altercation began over a barstool.

Three University of Maryland students and one young man who is not a student were injured.

Ramos is not a student, police said.

Prison for Bethesda couple

A husband and wife have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a scheme to conceal millions of dollars in real-estate profits from the Internal Revenue Service.

Minh-Vu Hoang, 58, orchestrated the fraud with her husband, Tranh Hoang, 65. They and other relatives bought hundreds of properties at foreclosure auctions and resold them for a profit from 2000 to 2005, according to court records. The family concealed the purchases to avoid paying taxes.

Minh-Vu Hoang was sentenced to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. Tranh Hoang was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.
