One of the more entertaining aspects of political conventions is the ingenuity of the campaign buttons and bumper stickers that are in abundance.
The traditional buttons, of course, usually feature the names and sometimes photos of the nominee (sometimes along with his running mate). The button watching in Denver has just begun.
Barack Obama, of course, is everywhere on the buttons — but Hillary Clinton is almost as prominent. There is the one with both Obama’s and Clinton’s photos that says “United for America,” and there’s “Hillary supporters for Obama.”
In a first (at least for this observer), there is an button solely dedicated to the nominee’s spouse, declaring over a flattering photograph nothing other than just “Michelle Obama.”
There are also Obama playing cards and other knickknacks, and even a coffee packet called “The original presidential roast.’
But most prominent at the first paraphernalia-sales counter to open in the convention hall are two bumper stickers: one that says “Democratic Women are the Life of the Party” and then this one: “Democrats are HOT! Ever heard of a ‘Fine Piece of Elephant’?
