‘He kept us safe’: Jeb fires back at Trump over Bush 43

It took a while, but Jeb Bush finally stood up for his big brother.

During the second GOP debate Wednesday night, the former Florida governor shot back at GOP rival Donald Trump after repeated shots about his brother, former President George W. Bush, and the tail end of his tenure in the White House.

“As it relates to my brother, there’s one thing I know for sure, he kept us safe,” Bush told the real estate mogul after Trump said that the Bush administration gave the U.S. a Barack Obama presidency. “Remember the rubble? You remember the firefighter with his arm around him? We’ll send a clear signal that the United States would be strong and fight Islamic terrorism. And he did keep us safe.”

“I don’t know, do you feel safe right now?” replied Trump, who leads the Washington Examiner‘s power rankings. “I don’t feel so safe.”

“That’s because of Barack Obama,” said Scott Walker jumping into the discussion. The Wisconsin governor went on to pan the current occupant of the White House’s tenure and record on foreign policy.

Many analysts have said Bush’s relationship to both his brother and father seem to be weighing on his candidacy, in part because of what some say is “Bush fatigue.” Trump has accused Jeb Bush of making campaign signs that say “Jeb!” in order to hide his last name.
