Suspected illegal immigrant in P.G. arrested in 1981 killing
A suspected illegal immigrant in Prince George’s County has been arrested in connection with a 1981 murder in Texas.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 53-year-old Jesus Blas-Perea, who also goes by Severino Tapia-Rosales, was taken into custody in Riverdale earlier this week and is awaiting extradition to Harris County, Texas. He is charged there with first-degree murder for the December 1981 slaying of Jose Santos-Duque in Houston.
Blas-Perea is from Mexico and has been deported twice before for illegally entering the United States, according to ICE. That federal agency placed a detainer on him when he was arrested, which indicated authorities believe he was again in the country unlawfully.
Man indicted in attack, fires at embassy
A North Carolina man was indicted Thursday on federal charges in an assault against the Gabonese ambassador and two arsons at the embassy on Connecticut Avenue in Washington.
Leon Obame, 44, has been in custody since his arrest Dec. 9, when authorities say he struck and bloodied Ambassador Michael Moussa-Adamo during a demonstration.
The indictment includes two new counts each of arson and damage to property occupied by a foreign government.
Prosecutors said Obame is responsible for setting fires to the embassy on Aug. 30, 2009, and Dec. 25, 2009. No one was injured.
