Ronny Cedeno (SS) – “Ubaldo Jiminez. He’s gonna be like that. He’s got a great curve like Jiminez. He’s got power fastball. For me he’s an unbelievable pitcher.
He’s got great stuff. He can be the best pitcher in the league. It’s up to him.”
Delwyn Young (OF) — “Brian Wilson, the closer of the Giants, is the guy he reminded me of.”
Lastings Milledge (OF) – “He’s a much different pitcher than anyone I’ve faced. Not stuff-wise. There’s more to it than just his fastball. It’s the way he commanded his curveball that was really impressive to me.”
Javier Lopez (SP) – “The only guy I saw with that kind of stuff was (former Nat) John Patterson, before he got injured. I saw him coming out of high school and with the Diamondbacks, plus fastball and everything else.”
Other interesting comments:
Cedeno — “We can make an adjustment – get ready for the fastball. I don’t want to see breaking balls and changeups from him. We can hit fastballs. It doesn’t matter if it’s 100, 110 [mph]. If you’re ready for the fastball, you’re gonna hit. He throws it straight. You got a chance to hit it.”
“He’s got power. He’s got sneaky. He’s got command.”
Lopez — “All the hype, surrounding him all year long, he lived up to it. He’s got that plus fastball. He can throw that curveball for strikes whenever he wants to. He had command of all his pitches, which is pretty rare.”
Young – “The younger the starter, the harder they throw. The older the starter, the less they throw and they make it move more. As he gets older, he’ll learn more stuff to make the ball do different things.”
Milledge – “He was very poised, very electric. I tip my cap to the kid. The kid had great, great location, spotted the ball well. I think coming in, there was focus on his fastball. We wanted to attack the fastball. But he never gave us anything we could drive. He was so good commanding his off-speed and putting away righties with his changeup, it’s a lot of things to be excited about with this kid.”
Neil Walker (2B) – “He’s throwing 97, 98, 99 on the black, there’s not much you can do.”
