Carly Fiorina, a Politico article today implies, needs to “persuade voters that she … is still representative of the … business community.”
The article, by Michael Hirsh, posits that “A much bigger potential issue than her record as CEO is” that Fiorina is “increasingly out-of-step with her corporate brethren” by supporting religious liberty.
Hirsh also cites Fiorina’s stance on immigration as part of an argument that being conservative might hurt Fiorina with voters, but “particularly [with] the major donors” in the GOP.
I think Hirsh is correct about many of the corporate donors, but it seems pretty obvious to me that nobody can appeal to Republican voters — and to the working-class middle — while worrying a lot about K Street and lobbyist donors. It looks like Fiorina’s picking between those two groups.
