Rep. Rohrabacher: ‘global warming is a total fraud’

As Republicans continue to offer speculation on the legitimacy of global warming, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) had no qualms about the theory, telling Americans it was a complete fallacy.

Speaking before a room of constituents at a town hall meeting last week, Rohrabacher told the Newport Mesa Tea Party global warming is “a total fraud.” The Congressman refuted comments made by Sen. Barbara Boxer’s (D-Calif.) — she claimed wildfires in Southern California were a result of climate change — and Rohrabacher illustrated his own beliefs on the theory.

“…You’ve got liberals who get elected at the local level want the state government to do the work and let them make the decisions,” he said. “Then at the state level, they want the federal government to do it. And at the federal government, they want to create global government to control all of our lives. That’s what the game plan is.”

Rohrabacher, a member of the House Science Committee, continued, saying global warming was a fallacy created solely to ensure powers beyond the federal government controlled American lives.

“It’s step by step by step more and bigger control over our lives by higher levels of government,” he said. “And global warming is simply that strategy in spades.”

The California Republican isn’t the only GOP member offering speculation on climate change. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) told a crowd last week global warming was more of a “religion than a science.” Additionally, Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) told Think Progress he doubted the climate was even changing.
