Sen. Sherrod Brown: President Obama’s comments on Elizabeth Warren were gender-based

Amid a spat between President Obama and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown has added more fuel to the fire.

On Saturday, Obama called Warren “absolutely wrong” in her criticisms of his administration’s attempt to get fast-track authority in negotiating trade deals. According to Obama, “Elizabeth is, you know, a politician like everybody else.”

According to Brown, who, like Warren, opposes the White House, Obama went too far.

When asked how Obama disrespected Warren, Brown replied, “I think by just calling her ‘another politician. I’m not going to get into more details. I think referring to her as first name, when he might not have done that for a male senator, perhaps? I’ve said enough.”

“I think the president was disrespectful to her by the way he did that,” Brown said Tuesday. “I think that the president has made this more personal than he needed to.”

Senate Democrats blocked the trade deal from proceeding on the Senate floor Tuesday, as some look for a compromise going forward.
