Versar wins $25M subcontract for Aberdeen repair, remodeling

Springfield-based Versar Inc. will subcontract on a $225 million Army task order infrastructure repair and remodeling at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

The prime contractor, Better Built Construction Services Inc., will award Versar with at least $25 million of the tasks, according to Versar and Karen Halsey, president and owner of Better Built Construction. The work is related to shifts triggered by Base Realignment and Closure.

Halsey told The Examiner she has received one task order so far for remodeling work for an undisclosed amount. She is still gathering subcontractors, and Versar was one of the first. The two companies, both full-service construction management firms, have worked together over the past year on other projects. They will be opening a joint office in Aberdeen next week in order to complete the work. Halsey expects the office to be permanent in order to expand her Washington presence.

“We are looking forward to learning from the experience and expertise of Versar” in this endeavor, she said.

Middletown, Ohio-based Better Built Construction is one of seven prime contractors in the agreement, which was offered to 8(a) firms.
