President Obama, during an event in honor of five renowned artists, suggested that the White House create a “Yo-Yo Ma room” for the cellist, and suggested lightheartedly that Yo-Yo Ma give him advice about how to get more people to like him and his policies.
“[Yo-Yo Ma] is something of a regular here at the White House,” Obama said last night at the White House. ” I was telling him we need to give him a room. [We could have] the Blue Room, the Red Room, and the Yo-Yo Ma room. We keep inviting him, and for some reason, he keeps on coming back,” Obama said.
“[M]aybe the most amazing thing about Yo-Yo Ma is that everybody likes him,” the president joked. “You’ve got to give me some tips. It’s remarkable.”
Obama also joked, “I thought about asking him to go talk to Congress.”
The president’s interactions with members of Congress are notably frosty. When asked on Friday if Obama would invite Republican legislators to the White House to discuss policy White House Press Secretary Jay Carney answered, “I would not dare to predict the future from [the press briefing podium] today.”
