Source: MLS Cup headed to D.C.

Major League Soccer and D.C. United will announce today the 2007 MLS Championship Game will be played at RFK Stadium for the third time in league history, according to a source.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber, D.C. United president Kevin Payne and District officials will make the official announcement at a press conference scheduled for today at RFK Stadium.

MLS Cup returns to Washington for the first time since 2000. The league’s last two title games were held at Pizza Hut Park, which opened in 2005 just outside Dallas. In 2000, Kansas City defeated Chicago, 1-0, in front of 39,159. D.C. United won the 1997 title at RFK with a 2-1 win over Colorado in front of a sellout crowd of 57,431.
