National teachers’ union president caught plagiarizing

A to-do list for the president of the national teachers’ union: Brush teeth, eat meals, don’t plagiarize, protect teachers, sleep.

But someone took an eraser to the tasks of Randi Weingarten, chief of the American Federation of Teachers, who was caught cribbing parts of a recent speech by a New York TV station. (Presumably the teeth-brushing is still on track.)

NY1 ran an exclusive on Wednesday detailing how a speech Weingarten gave last week copied their broadcast about NYC’s Department of Education. The line-by-line doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

Weingarten told the station that “she did not write the speech and was livid about the plagiarism.”

“It was our mistake not to clearly credit NY1 and its reporter Lindsey Christ,” Weingarten said. “Educators know better and in the future due diligence we expect from others will be exercised here.”
