Martin Short, who starred in the 1986 film ¡Three Amigos!, praised President Obama for executive amnesty at last night’s Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C.
“Welcome Mr. President and thank you,” Short told the president. “Because of you, the Three Amigos can stay indefinitely.”
Short wasn’t done with his immigration remarks. Later he’d add, “I’m from across the border in Canada. That’s the border without the big fence.”

Pool watched most of the 2014 Kennedy Center Honors via close-circuit TV from the Israeli Lounge at the Kennedy Center. Pool was taken back to the motorcade at around 10:25 PM to wait during the last set of the show, which honored Sting.
The program lasted about two hours or so with a 15 min intermission, all of which will be edited down into what looks to be a pretty entertaining package for broadcast on TV later. Lady Gaga, Springsteen and Herbie Hancock all play tributes to Sting! David Letterman and Stephen Colbert do schtick together on stage! Garrison Keillor is as you’d expect! Plus Carl Kasell does the all the in-house announcements and intros. Can’t miss.
There was a cavalcade of stars to pay tribute to the five honorees and for the most part politics was kept out of things. Some exceptions:

“Welcome Mr. President and thank you,” Short said, looking up at the presidential box. “Because of you, the Three Amigos can stay indefinitely.”

Jane Fonda, during her remarks honoring Lily Tomlin.
“Remember the days it was only the operators listening in on our calls?” Fonda said, sitting in a version of Tomlin’s classic telephone operator set.
“Equal pay? They’re still laughing about that one,” she said, after talking about her turn starring with Tomlin in “9 to 5.”
POTUS was spotted on the closed circuit broadcast at one point with what appeared to be a lozenge in his mouth, a reminder of his trip to the hospital this weekend.
Motorcade left for the White House at 10:46 PM.
