Trump needs to disavow Sidney Powell and Lin Wood publicly

It has become nearly impossible to determine which political party lawyers Sidney Powell and Lin Wood are working for.

Powell and Wood claim to be “fighting” for President Trump and the GOP by … filing absurd lawsuits alleging a massive international voter fraud conspiracy for which there is no evidence. Not only is this conspiracy theory ridiculous, it’s destructive. Any real case the Trump campaign might have with regard to voter fraud has now been tainted by Powell’s “Kraken.” Why should anyone listen to concerns about mail-in voting or dirty voter rolls when some of the loudest advocates for voting security are making obviously untrue claims?

But Powell and Wood did not stop there. Angry that Republicans are distancing themselves from Powell’s ramblings, the duo decided to sabotage the entire Republican Party this week by discouraging Georgia Republicans from voting in the critical Senate runoff elections.

Speaking to a crowd of voters in Georgia, Wood claimed Loeffler and Perdue had not “earned” Republicans’ vote and insisted that Georgians should not vote for either candidate until they take up Powell’s voter fraud conspiracy and demand that Gov. Brian Kemp call a special legislative session.

“Don’t you give it to them,” Wood said. “Why would you go back and vote in another rigged election for God’s sake? Fix it! You gotta fix it!”

Powell said much the same.

In other words, Wood, Powell, and every single person who gives them the time of day, is working to hand the Democratic Party a Senate majority. These people are pushing the Democrats one step closer toward a packed Supreme Court, the addition of two new Democratic states, and a leftist Cabinet that Biden knows will be confirmed. They are setting Loeffler, Perdue, and the entire Republican Party up for failure — and they know it.

Trump, to his credit, has urged his supporters to disregard calls not to vote and support Loeffler and Perdue anyway. But he has failed to identify the source of the problem: Powell and Wood. He still regularly shares information about their lawsuits on social media, and he even agreed with their argument that Kemp must step in and act against the results of Georgia’s election.

The president needs to disavow Wood and Powell publicly. It is not enough to distance his campaign from them. There needs to be a clear, sharp cutoff in which Trump makes it known that Wood and Powell do not represent him, his campaign, or his supporters. Until this happens, Wood and Powell will continue to spew their nonsense because they will have no reason not to. Thousands of demoralized Georgia voters will listen to them, and the GOP will suffer as a result.

Simply put, there is too much at stake. Trump and the Republican Party do not have time to waste on malicious actors who would jeopardize the longevity of the GOP for their own personal gain. It’s time to cut Powell and Wood loose — this time, for good.
