Sarah Palin’s home damaged in Anchorage earthquake

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said her home was damaged in the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Anchorage Friday afternoon.

“?? for Alaska. Our family is intact – house is not…,” Palin tweeted Friday. “I imagine that’s the case for many, many others. So thankful to be safe; praying for our state following the earthquake.”

The initial earthquake began at 8:29 a.m., local time, and multiple aftershocks have already been identified by the U.S. Geological Survey, including a 5.7 magnitude aftershock in Anchorage.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, the significant damage was done to Anchorage’s infrastructure, and many buildings were affected.

“Many homes and buildings are damaged,” the department said in a statement Friday morning. “Many roads and bridges are closed. Stay off the roads if you don’t need to drive.”

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said President Trump has been briefed on the situation, and Alaska Gov. Bill Walker said that he had been in “direct contact” with the White House as he issued a declaration of disaster.
