Critics of Montgomery County spending won’t be satisfied if their council foes leave office — they want to eliminate their jobs altogether.
The Montgomery chapter of the conservative Americans for Prosperity, a limited government advocacy group, is starting an outreach campaign to eliminate two at-large County Council seats.
They are seeking 10,000 signatures to get the measure on the November ballot. Supporters say the move would save taxpayers as much as $2 million a year in salaries and operating costs.
The County Council has five members who represent specific districts and four who represent the county at large.
