Roy Moore is now suing one of his accusers for defamation

Attorneys for former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore announced Tuesday they have filed a claim asking for a trial by jury and alleging defamation against Leigh Corfman, who accused the judge of sexually assaulting her as a minor.

“This is and has been a political attempt to smear the good name and reputation of Judge Roy Moore, and we will not let this injustice continue. Yesterday, we filed claims for slander and defamation against Leigh Corfman, and claimed damages for attorney fees under the Alabama Litigation Accountability Act,” attorney Melissa Isaak said in a statement.

“We also continue to argue that this case should be tried in Etowah County, and wonder why Leigh Corfman has chosen to file this case in Montgomery and not Etowah County, where both she and Judge Moore reside and where her character and reputation are well known,” Isaac added.

Moore lost a special election to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions in December. On Jan. 25, he emailed supporters asking them for $250,000 in financial support to cover legal bills associated with claims that he sexually harassed and assaulted multiple underage girls while he was in his 30s.

Corfman sued Moore for defamation in January for how she said he called her a “liar and immoral” after she shared her story about Moore with the Washington Post last fall.
