Access Carroll, a nonprofit center that provides free health care to uninsured, low-income Carroll residents, was awarded funding as part of a statewide initiative to improve health care.
The state $100,000 grant will pay for an access coordinator position, who will help patients receive more coordinated specialty services.
Access Carroll was one of 12 community health resource organizations to receive more than $4.6 million in aid for health care initiatives.
The grants are the first awarded by the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, which is using grants, community assessments and technical assistance to help low-income families and under- and uninsured Marylanders.
The commission?s focus is to:
» Develop more coordinated, integrated systems of community-based care;
» Redirect nonemergency care from hospital emergency departments to other providers in the community;
» Assist individuals in establishing a medical home.
