Spearhead a noble mission to defend planet Reach as the “Halo” franchise comes to a close.
The tale of Reach is familiar to all “Halo” fans — the United Nations Space Command fortress planet is invaded and destroyed in the days before the original “Halo.” Now you finally get to experience the epic battle and sacrifice of Xbox icon Master Chief’s fellow Spartan warriors.
Start by customizing your own Spartan armor by choosing different helmets, shoulder guards, chest protectors and more, as well as selecting colors and special emblems. After that, join Noble Team as its newest member in the days leading up to the full-scale attack on the planet by the evil aliens bent on the destruction of the human race — the Covenant. Starting with a run-of-the-mill mission against rebels, the team comes to find that the Covenant has landed on Reach. From there it’s an adventure ride spanning the planet and even venturing into space.
Many of the favorite weapons and vehicles return including the sniper rifle and warthog jeep. One new feature, though, is the addition of truly vehicle-based levels such as a dogfight in space and helping the evacuation effort with a helicopter. The majority of the game is still a first-person shooter.
The story is very deep for a campaign that runs just six to seven hours.
But most people don’t buy “Halo” games for the story mode. There’s still a huge online multi-player community on Xbox Live, just like for the previous renditions. Play with friends or random strangers as your customized Spartan in online multi-player modes such as death match and capture the flag.
If you’re a “Halo” fanatic, you can’t miss this one. For everyone else, you may want to pick it up, but don’t bother spending the extra dough for the special edition box sets.
