Some candidates have to sue to get on the ballot. Kansas Senate nominee Chad Taylor may sue to get his name off.
With incumbent Republican Sen. Pat Roberts in serious trouble after a bruising primary, Taylor, a Democrat, tried to drop out of the race to help an independent candidate win.
But Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Republican who serves on an honorary committee for the Roberts’ campaign, blocked that move Thursday.
In a statement Friday, Taylor said he may turn to the courts.
“I am planning to challenge the ruling of the Kansas Secretary of State, who serves on Pat Roberts’ Honorary Committee,” he said.
Despite his efforts to rend his Senate bid, Taylor’s campaign site is still humming away.
“I look forward to serving as a senator who will represent true Kansas interests and create opportunities for our citizens,” reads the site’s front page.
And, as of 5 p.m. on Aug. 5, the volunteer sign-up form still works.
Roberts isn’t the only ultra-vulnerable Republican running in the Sunflower State. Gov. Sam Brownback’s reelection bid is one of the toughest political fights of his career.
