Silicon Valley conservatives to launch Drudge Report competitor with ‘Free Matt Drudge’ campaign

Three anonymous Silicon Valley conservatives have announced their intention to create a news aggregation site to rival the Drudge Report following what they describe as his recent leftward tilt.

They recently launched a new campaign to determine the appeal of such a site. Their new campaign, titled “Free Matt Drudge,” explains, “We love Matt Drudge and know the only way the Drudge Report would have gone so far left is if he was being held hostage in some progressive’s basement. For this reason, we demand his immediate release without condition,” but it also adds that the hostage scenario was “obviously satirical.”

The site, which doesn’t yet have a name, is expected to debut in the middle of January, should the campaign receive positive feedback. They plan on aggregating articles from any site, regardless of political leaning or subject matter; headlines will be editorialized, however.

Some have suggested the Drudge Report started their ideological transformation during the impeachment investigation into President Trump’s conduct surrounding Ukraine. However, one of the founders disagreed, claiming that said shift could be seen on the day after Trump was inaugurated.

“This is something that began the day after the election. You could watch it in real time starting at about 9:30 a.m. a day after the election,” that founder told the Washington Examiner in an interview.

He also claimed that the founders of the site intend to remain anonymous because they fear retribution in Silicon Valley over political ideologies.

“The nature of Silicon Valley is that while there are lots of nice people that are in Silicon Valley, on the whole, it tends to be less than an open-minded or tolerant region when it comes to political persuasion,” the founder added. “Even the slightest bit of dissent is treated harshly.”

The founders also noted that they view other news aggregate sites that have started as a result of Drudge’s apparent shift as “allies.” Fox News contributor Dan Bongino recently launched his own news aggregation site, the Bongino Report, earlier this month.
