The Washington Convention and Sports Authority, which owns and manages the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, is bringing out a new look this week when it announces its new branding campaign at a scheduled press conference. And, hey, let’s face it — isn’t it about time? What kind of regular Joe would ever be able to remember the authority’s full name or even recognize the acronym?

The new brand, scheduled to be revealed Wedesday, will include a snappy new logo and an much-easier-to-remember name that gives folks a better idea of what the agency means in their daily lives. Can anyone remember what Destination DC used to call itself? Yeah. We didn’t think so. Even though it changed its name just three short years ago, who the heck can remember the Washington, D.C., Convention & Tourism Corporation?

The WCSA also says its new name and logo will help it attract “a broader range of events while generating greater economic and community benefits for the residents and business owners of the District of Columbia.”

And if nothing else, the name change will make reporters happy for not having to spell out the meaty title, “the Washington Convention and …” Well, you get the point.
