Death near D.C. creek ruled homicide

The death of a man whose body was found near a Northeast D.C. creek has been ruled the city’s first homicide of 2012.

D.C. police said 56-year-old Leroy Studevant was found slain shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday near a creek on the 4200 block of Hunt Place NE.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Sunday ruled his death a homicide caused by “strangulation associated with piercing blunt force trauma,” according to a police statement. Because that ruling was made on Jan. 1, the death is counted toward the city’s 2012 homicide total.

No suspects have been identified in the slaying.
