FT. Hood Shooter Fined $1000 for Facial Hair

Ft. Hood shooter Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan was fined $1,000 for refusing to shave and coming to court in a disheveled appearance, according to officials at Ft. Hood.

He is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for a shooting spree at the deployment-processing center at Ft. Hood, in November 2009.

“In an Article 39A hearing, Army Col. Gregory Gross fined Maj. Nidal Hasan $1,000, the maximum fine the court could impose under the court-martial contempt statute,” for failing to live up to required Army grooming standards, officials stated in a press release.

Hasan refused to voluntarily shave and watched the remainder of the hearing outside the courtroom via a close-circuit television feed after the contempt hearing.

“Gross informed him that if he did not voluntarily shave, he likely would compel a shaving so Hasan could attend forthcoming court-martial hearings in person,” officials said.
