MANCHESTER, N.H. — A top Republican supporting Chris Christie’s presidential bid said Christie’s fierce criticism of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio during the GOP debate Saturday will give him a much-needed boost in the final 72 hours before New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary.
“Gov. Christie was the biggest winner,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who endorsed Christie early on the primary season, told reporters in the post-debate spin room. “He got the biggest applause. He was tough. He answered the questions.”
“It was a good night for the governors. Kasich held his own [and] Bush did really well,” he added.
According to the Maryland governor, Rubio and the GOP front-runner Donald Trump performed the worst of the seven candidates on stage Saturday.
“I think it was a very bad night for Rubio and for Trump,” Hogan said. “Some of [Trump’s] answers were pretty weak and some of his answers drew pretty heavy boos.”
He continued, “Here’s what the polls show: 45 percent of people in New Hampshire haven’t made up their mind [and] we have 72 hours to get to them.
“A lot of them are going to make up their mind tonight and they’re going to break towards my guy,” Hogan said of Christie.
