Ummm, what?
That’s right. Those dreamy long-haired boys of Generation Y’s youth are all grown up, and they were frolicking barefoot in the District.
And don’t be fooled by their blond locks — they knew our streets weren’t safe for their toesies, so they skipped to the greener side of town Monday to join more than 300 students to Walk the Walk for HIV.
“For us, the walks are not awareness walks, they’re an action,” Zac Hanson said. “The idea that you are physically doing something.”
The boys know what it means to come to Washington, and no, they didn’t march over to Capitol Hill today.
“Our focus has really been on individuals, because ultimately governments reflect people,” Zac Hanson said. “We think individuals taking action is how you will make real changes not policy.”
As for their contemporary counterparts the Jonas Brothers, “They have the opportunity to decide if they are going to last. It’s all about the decisions you make,” Taylor Hanson said. “They’ve already made a lot of different decisions than we have made.”
The band performed at the 9:30 Club on Tuesday night. Fourteen girls waited on tarps with sleeping bags since 11 p.m. Monday night to see the band. One young fan had a shirt that said “The Hanson music lives on.” It looks like it just may.
