Twenty new cases of measles have been confirmed in the U.S. over the past week, but the outbreaks haven’t spread to any new states, the Centers for Disease Control reported Tuesday.
There are now 141 cases of the highly infectious disease in 17 states and D.C. That’s a 16 percent increase over last week, when 121 cases were confirmed.
A majority of the cases still stem from an initial outbreak linked to Disneyland in California, where there are 98 cases. The second-highest number of cases is in Illinois, where 11 have been confirmed.
Health officials have been reiterating their recommendations to get vaccinated, noting that last year the U.S. experienced the largest spike in measles cases in recent years. The CDC had declared the disease to be eliminated in the country in 2000.
