Comedian Chelsea Handler was widely slammed on Twitter after suggesting the police officer who stands accused of murdering George Floyd should be convicted without a trial because the alleged crime is on film.
“So pathetic that there is a trial to prove that Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd when there is video of him doing so,” the television personality tweeted Tuesday as the second day of officer Derek Chauvin’s trial was underway.

Handler quickly received pushback from Twitter users across the political spectrum.
“Worst take I’ve seen on Chauvin trial,” political scientist Ian Bremmer tweeted. “And that’s a high bar.”

Handler later added to her original post by suggesting trials should be done away with if there is audio and video evidence of the crime.
“Perhaps we skip trials when there is audio and video footage of the murder,” she tweeted.

Chauvin has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter related to Floyd’s death while in police custody in Minneapolis last summer.
During the trial on Tuesday, an MMA fighter at the scene when Floyd died testified that he believes he “witnessed a murder,” and a woman who filmed his encounter with police on her cellphone said she wishes she had done more to help him.
