Poll: Barbara Comstock crushing Foust in bid to replace Va. Rep. Frank Wolf

Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock is far in front of Fairfax Democrat John Foust in a new poll that reveals his sexist slap at the Republican has damaged his chances of replacing retiring Republican Rep. Frank Wolf.

In a memo from the Tarrance Group, Comstock’s lead in the 10th District, which stretches from the Washington suburbs to the apple orchards of Winchester is 12 points, 46 percent to 34 percent for Foust.

Some 403 likely voters, with Democrats and Republicans split evenly, also found that virtually nine of 10 voters already know Comstock, who campaigned for Mitt Romney in 2012, but only 59 percent knew her opponent.

She is apparently aided by a poor view of the economy. “The political environment is grim for Democrats,” said the memo. Just 25 percent of the wealthy district said the country is headed in the right direction. And 57 percent disapprove of President Obama’s job.

Hurting Foust, who has been running negative ads against Comstock, were his recent comments about Comstock that were seen as sexist. “I don’t think she’s even had a real job,” he said of Comstock, who was a former Wolf aide, longtime House lawyer, and influential member of the Virginia House of Delegates.

He is a member of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors.
