An increased reward is being offered for information that helps police identify the vandals damaging property in Montgomery County.
Police are investigating three recent hate-related acts of vandalism. In each of the incidents, a reward of $3,000 is now available for information that leads to an arrest. Police are still determining whether the three cases are related.
The first incident occurred on July 13 on the 15500 block of Wembrough Street in the Spencerville area, when someone vandalized about 20 cars between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Someone slashed the cars’ tires and painted hate-related graffiti that include included male genitalia and derogatory comments, police said.
The next day, officials uncovered extensive vandalism to walls, doors, windows and furniture at Herbert Hoover Middle School, located at 8810 Postoak Road in Potomac. The vandalism is believed to have occurred between 3:30 p.m. on July 13 and 9:45 a.m. on July 14. The graffiti included sexual drawings and hate language, police said.
Then, on July 16, officers found ethnically offensive words, sexual drawings and broken windows at North Bethesda Middle School, located at 8935 Bradmoor Drive. Seven nearby vehicles were also painted.
