Teen arrested in D.C. homicide A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of another 19-year-old. Police said Kwan Kearney, of Northeast D.C., is charged in the Sunday slaying of Jamal Wilson. Officers responded to the unit block of P Street NW at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting. Wilson was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
D.C. charges dropped against teen driving prof’s Jeep
Charges in the District against the 18-year-old police say they caught driving the Jeep of slain American University professor Sue Ann Marcum have been dropped, but he will still face charges in Montgomery County. D.C. prosecutors dismissed the unauthorized-use-of-a-vehicle charge against Deandrew Hamlin. He was apprehended Oct. 25 while driving the professor’s missing Jeep Cherokee. Earlier that day, Marcum was found dead in her Bethesda home. A warrant has also been issued for Hamlin in Montgomery County, charging him with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft and unauthorized removal of property. Cpl. Dan Friz of the Montgomery County police said Hamlin still is considered a suspect in Marcum’s death.
Rastafarian inmates no longer in isolation
Rastafarian and other Virginia inmates who had been in isolation for refusing to cut their hair are now living together. The Associated Press reported that 31 inmates who had been in isolation for violating the state’s grooming policy have been transferred to Keen Mountain Correctional Center in southwestern Virginia. They are housed separately from the general population but not in isolation.
5 men accused of running prostitution ring
Authorities say five men have been arrested, accused of managing brothels in Annapolis, Easton and elsewhere in Maryland. Federal prosecutors said the men are illegal immigrants, and they transported prostitutes into the brothels from Virginia and the District.
