Washington, D.C. is starting to look like an episode of Judge Judy.
First, House Speaker John Boehner led the U.S. House of Representatives to sue Obama for executive overreach. Now, Democrats are calling for Obama to sue Congress right back.
The push for Obama to sue Congress started to gain traction in early August, with MSNBC host Chris Matthews urging the president to sue Congress for “failure to provide services.” On Wednesday, Chicago labor lawyer and author Thomas Geoghegan hopped aboard the lawsuit train, pitching the idea for an Obama lawsuit aimed specifically at House Republicans.
In an op-ed for Politico, Georghegan said that it’s “past time” for the Obama administration to “rouse itself” and take legal action against House Republicans, who, he alleges, have manipulated district lines in order to win elections.
“Let Boehner sue. Let the president sue back. Or sue the states that have engaged in any scheme of gerrymandering of the U.S. House,” Geoghegan wrote.
Grab your popcorn. “Suing Season” has officially begun.
