Two dogs were found abandoned in a trash can in an alley in Southeast D.C., officials said.
The animals were discovered Sunday afternoon in an alley behind the 3900 blocks of R and S streets Southeast. They are believed to have been placed in the trash can sometime after Friday evening, according to the Washington Humane Society.

One of the canines – an adult, female, tan-brindle dog – was dead at the scene. Her front right leg was swollen and had what appeared to be bite marks, and there was a crescent moon-shaped scar on her rear right outer thigh, Humane Society officials said.
The other dog – an adult, female, dark brown-brindle dog – was paralyzed. She was euthanized after the medical staff determined she could not be saved.
