Facebook temporarily banned InfoWars founder Alex Jones for 30 days after reviewing his content and removing four videos from his page.
Jones, a controversial right-wing conspiracy theorist, was suspended from Facebook on Thursday night after he was given a warning from the social media platform about violating their policies. According to a spokesperson who talked to CNN, the temporary ban will last 30 days.
The Facebook spokesperson said that Jones’ videos violated the community standards which make it clear that they “prohibit content that encourages physical harm [bullying] or attacks someone based on their religious affiliation or gender identity [hate speech].”
It’s unclear which videos were scrubbed from the page, however, three of the videos were reportedly flagged on Wednesday and the fourth was flagged roughly a month ago.
The temporary ban means that Jones cannot post content to his personal profile or public pages, including his controversial media outlet, InfoWars. However, the pages remain active and other administrators still have publishing powers, meaning they can still post during Jones’ suspension.
Alex Jones, under the InfoWars brand, is infamous for spreading viral conspiracy theories such as calling the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York an inside job and claiming the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was a hoax.
