Redskins injury report: Polumbus works at LG

With left guard Maurice Hurt (knee) and right tackle Jammal Brown (groin) both questionable for Sunday’s game vs. Dallas, the Redskins could have a new look along the line. And it could include Tyler Polumbus at left guard.

Polumbus, who signed with the Redskins two weeks ago, started three games at left guard for Seattle in 2010 as well as two playoff games.

He said he’s taken snaps at left guard this week.

“I’m learning from these guys every day,” he said. “[Center Will Montgomery] is helping me out teaching me the calls, teaching me the plays and teaching me the nuances of the offense.”

He said he’s “absolutely” looking forward to Sunday’s game, but would not confirm that he’s starting. But if Hurt can’t play – he hasn’t practiced this week – then the Redskins have few options. They don’t want to move Montgomery back to left guard, where he struggled for two games. And they weren’t thrilled with how Erik Cook made his line calls at center in those games. That leaves Polumbus as the most likely option if Hurt sits.

Brown was considered a longshot earlier in the week. But he said he took about 50 percent of the snaps in practice Friday, rotating with Sean Locklear (who is questionable with an ankle injury) and undrafted free agent Willie Smith.

“It ain’t about sucking it up, if you have a tear you have a tear,” Brown said. “You don’t want it to get worse, but you definitely want to be out there playing. I’ll see what I can do…. Those things linger. I’ll try to tough it out but it’s their call. I’ll try to see what I can do. I still have two more days to rest and we’ll see from there.”

Smith, who has never appeared in an NFL game, said, “I’m definitely more comfortable with the playbook. That’s the biggest thing. And I’m getting better at all the little things.”

…Also on the injury report: strong safety LaRon Landry, who did not practice for a third straight day, is listed as questionable because of his sore Achilles.

“I’m feeling fine,” Landry said. “I told you in the beginning of the week that I would be playing and I wouldn’t sit out. If I do sit it, it wasn’t my call.”

…Receiver Santana Moss (hand), linebacker Keyaron Fox (knee infection) and receiver Niles Paul (toe) are out.
