Report: Citi forecast lowers Clinton’s chance of beating Trump

Citi revised its forecast of the 2016 presidential election to show Hillary Clinton’s chances of winning dropping, and Donald Trump’s electoral chances rising.

The change represents more information suggesting the race is tightening with under 50 days to go until the election.

“We reduce the probability of a Clinton victory to 60 percent from 65 percent, with a 40 percent probability of a Trump win,” said a team of political analysts, led by Tina Fordham, according to CNBC.

“Hillary Clinton still has a much more mathematically straightforward path to victory in the Electoral College vote, but suffers from an ‘enthusiasm gap’ that may affect support at the polls on Nov. 8, with Trump voters significantly more likely to say they intend to vote.”

Steven Englander, an executive at Citi, told CNBC a Trump victory could spark a “sell-off,” but that the future could be better for investors depending on what policies the GOP nominee may implement.

One week remains until the first presidential debate in New York, where Trump and Clinton will meet onstage.
