‘Not mafia’: Andrew Cuomo throws weight behind brother Chris over Fredo rant

Andrew Cuomo backed his brother Chris Cuomo during a radio interview in the wake of the CNN anchor’s tirade, in which he claimed “Fredo” is equivalent to the N-word.

The New York governor also maintained that he had seen only “parts” of The Godfather because of its depiction of Italian-Americans.

“Italian Americans are not Mafia,” Andrew Cuomo said to WAMC radio. “Don’t you dare liken my family to the family you saw in The Godfather or The Sopranos.”

Cuomo, 61, said his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, refused even to watch The Godfather.

“My father wouldn’t watch the movie because it was anti-Italian,” Cuomo claimed.

“I can’t tell you how many times people have come up to me and said, ‘In The Godfather, who are you, which one are you, which character are you?” Cuomo said.

The governor’s comments come after tape of a profane rant against a Trump supporter by Chris Cuomo went viral, in which he threatened to throw the man down the stairs.

Cuomo was furious at having been called “Fredo,” a reference to the Godfather character Fredo Corleone, who was the weaker, treacherous older brother to Michael.
