Warren trashes ‘unlimited spending’ of billionaire Bloomberg

Presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren blasted former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s “unlimited spending,” and said that no one “should be able to buy their way” into the presidency.

“I don’t think anyone should be able to buy their way into a nomination or to be president of the United States,” the Massachusetts Democrat said.

Her remarks came following a question from moderator George Stephanopoulos, who asked what Warren thought of Bloomberg receiving the endorsement of former Navy Secretary Richard Spencer.

“As Democrats, we all want to overturn Citizen United because we want to end this unlimited spending,” Warren said. “I think the way we build a democracy going forward is not billionaires reaching into their pockets or people sucking up to billionaires.”

Bloomberg, 73, has seen his polling numbers rise sharply over the past month after his campaign spent more than $200 million on advertisements. Bloomberg has promised to spend another $1 billion on whichever candidate wins the Democratic nomination.

“I don’t think any billionaire ought to be able to do it, and I don’t think people who suck up to billionaires in order to fund their campaigns should be able to do it,” Warren said.
