Ohio Gov. John Kasich hit back at Donald Trump’s claim that fracking saved him in Ohio by pointing out that few of the jobs created in the Buckeye State were in the energy industry.
Trump, returning to a line that worked in the last debate, tried to dismiss Kasich by saying, “You were lucky to strike oil” during an exchange about illegal immigration during the fourth Republican presidential primary debate Tuesday. However, this time Kasich came prepared with stats.

“We have grown 347,000 jobs, our unemployment is half of what it is and our fracking and energy industry may have created 20,000 of those jobs,” Kasich said.
“Ohio’s diversifying. Those false little things, sir, don’t count when it comes to the truth.”
Ohio sits on portions of two major shale gas formations: the Marcellus and Utica shale regions. Fracking injects water and sand underground to extract natural gas and oil from shale rock miles underground.
Trump ended the exchange with another line attempting to dismiss Kasich that drew boos from the Milwaukee crowd.
“I run a company worth millions and millions of dollars, I don’t have to listen to this man,” Trump said.
