ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Looking for a taste of rural life? Try New York City.
A report by the state comptroller says there are now 138 farmer’s markets operating in the Big Apple, where shoppers can buy fruit and vegetables grown in fields and orchards within a morning’s drive of the city.
The number of markets statewide has more than doubled in the past decade.
Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is releasing the report Saturday to coincide with national Farmers Market Week. He was also making a stop at the popular Union Square Greenmarket in Manhattan.
