Vermont approved legislation Tuesday that would modify the state’s constitution to ensure women can continue to receive abortions.

The Vermont House voted in favor of the legislation on Tuesday, following approval from the Senate. The next elected legislature would also need to back the amendment, and then it would have to receive approval in a statewide vote in 2022 before taking effect.
