Former first lady Melania Trump paid tribute to children at the The Children’s Inn at the National Institute of Health in a Valentine’s Day social media post.
“On this #ValentinesDay, I think of the brave & inspirational children at @TheChildrensInn @NIH where I visited the past few years,” Trump said on Twitter. “Sending them love & strength, today & everyday. #HappyValentinesDay.”

The Children’s Inn, located in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks to be a “place like home” for children battling deadly diseases. Families stay at the Inn free of charge and participate in the National Institute of Health’s research while their children receive medical care.
Trump made visiting the clinic a Valentine’s Day tradition as first lady, making appearances there for three consecutive years from 2018-2020.
“We are so honored that the First Lady has chosen to spend Valentine’s Day with the children and families of The Children’s Inn once again this year,” Jennie Lucca, CEO of The Children’s Inn at NIH, said of last year’s visit. “We’ve come to look forward to her visit every year. Mrs. Trump brings a delightful experience for our families and awareness to the much-needed medical research happening here at the NIH.”
Trump made medical facilities treating children a priority during her time as first lady, helping to secure donations to build an outdoor “healing space” at the Children’s National Health System just months into her time in the position.
“I want to thank everyone involved in this project,” Trump said of that project. “It took so many kind and caring people focused on these very brave and amazing children, and the end result is something everyone should be proud of. I’m so grateful that patients and their families will be able to go through the healing process outside in this wonderful space.”
The former first lady indicated she will continue her work advocating for children into the future, having recently hired staff to continue work on her Be Best Initiative program from Florida.
